- Struggles in recognising letters
- unaware of letter sounds.
- Not able to distinguish the sounds in words
- Difficult to blend the sounds to form words.
- Struggles to recognize and recall common sight words.
- Guesses unfamiliar words instead of using decoding or word-analysis skills.
- Frequently loses track of where they are while reading.
- Mixes up words that appear similar (e.g., house/ horse).
- Reverses the order of letters in words (e.g., on / no).
- Experiences significant challenges in learning to read.
- Struggles in comprehension - understanding of ideas, themes or meaning while reading.
- Reads at a slow pace.
- Insertion, omission, substitutes or omits letters or words while reading.
- Has poor recall of new vocabulary.
- Shows dislike for reading, avoids reading activities, or reads unwillingly.
